按财政供养分类，有全额拨款、差额拨款、自收自支三种。按照职能分类，有承担行政职能、从事生产经营活动、从事公益服务三种。按岗位类别分，可分为管理岗、专业技术岗和工勤岗三种事业编。

具体分类

1.按财政供养分类，有全额拨款、差额拨款、自收自支三种。

全额拨款，指的是你的工资全是国家给的，主要集中承担行政执法功能的事业单位和公益一类事业单位等两种事业单位中。

差额拨款，指的是你的工资有部分是国家给的，有部分是单位给的;

自收自支，指的是你的工资都是单位给的;

差额拨款和自收自支主要集中在公益二类事业单位和承担生产经营活动的事业单位等两种事业单位。

2.按照职能分类，有承担行政职能、从事生产经营活动、从事公益服务三种。

承担行政职能事业单位：是指承担行政决策、行政执行、行政监督等职能的事业单位。这类单位逐步将行政职能划归行政机构，或转为行政机构。比如城管监察、环境监测、土地监察等。来通俗，这批事业单位是比较有“权”的，能管的。

从事生产经营活动事业单位：是指所提供的产品或服务可以由市场资源配置、不承担公益服务职责的事业单位。这类单位要逐步转为企业或撤销。比如研究所，出版社等。

从事公益服务事业单位：是指面向社会提供公益服务和为机关行使职能提供支持保障的事业单位。改革后，只有这类单位将继续保留在事业单位序列。比如教育局，医疗机构等。

3.按照单位公益性质来分类

主要包括三种类型事业单位，即公益一类、公益二类、公益三类。公益一类是指从事关系国家安全、公共安全、公共教育、公共文化、公共卫生、经济社会秩序和公民基本社会权利的公益服务，不能或不宜由市场配置资源的事业单位。例：图书馆、博物馆等。公益二类是指面向全社会提供涉及人民群众普遍需求和经济社会发展需要的公益服务，可部分实现由市场配置资源的事业单位。例：职业学校、畜牧兽医站等。公益三类其实与自收自支事业单位差不多，实际运作与企业差不多。

4.按岗位类别分，可分为管理岗、专业技术岗和工勤岗三种事业编。

管理岗按照行政序列定职定级定薪，专技岗主要走职称路线套发工资，工勤岗受限较多，身份比较固定，工资待遇相对较低，且以前基本上不能转岗。但现在事业单位已由身份管理转为岗位管理，工勤人员在符合条件的情况下，也可通过公开竞聘等方式转聘到专技岗，相较以前算是一大进步。
